Doc. Jones Maiden Flight on the Euro Firebird

It's a Family Friendly Platform, Huh

Perhaps the best sport plane I have flown. You can get the Euro Firebird in the air quicker and more economically than any sport plane out there. Doc Jones telle me: "… a straight and level fast pass with a 10 mph head wind clocked 207 mph. Slow passes were clocked at 41 mph."

The plane is very stable both in the air and on the ground. You can take off with about 200 feet of runway and land at 150 to 200 feet. You can land without using the wheel brakes by simply extending the speed brake to 60º. The plane can do large loops, snap rolls, stall turns and even a flat spin. George does recommend "weilding a flat spin in the first two minutes of the flight while the nose is heavy with fuel."

It's a dream to build. Of course, to a novice builder it looks extremely difficult without written instructions or photos included in the kit. The kit is made from very high quality glass with a gel coat. The kit includes pre-built rudders and a pre-cut hole for the wing tube. The wings are very good sheeted balsa.

George built his Firebird "… very stock." He used the two coke bottles for fuel tanks and gets a good 6.5 minutes flight time. There appeared to be at least a third tank of fuel remaining after each flight with the throttle at one-half to three-quarters maximum power. George will fly the Firebird at Denver Jets this weekend.
