TRI-CITY CLOUD DANCERS
and
CITY OF WINONA

We are most fortunate to go many places and do many things, but the Mississippi Afterburners Jet Fly has to be one of the most enjoyable events of recent memory. The Mississippi gang are so laid back and so very, very accommodating. Now tell me, who other than Vernon would cruise the pits wanting to know: "Is there anything I can do for you?" And it's not rhetoric! If you wanted or needed something and you didn't tell him, he would be very disappointed with you.
The Winona Airport is a marvelous flying site and the Tri-City Cloud Dancers, after these many years (it will be ten in 2001). are like family. The $30 landing fee included four meals; that's lunch and dinner x two. We had the usual barbecued chicken and pork, baked beans and potato salad, but the slaw was very different (Elizabeth wants the recipe ... please). And, baked bread. For desert, deep dish peach and apple pie with an assortment of home made ice cream.
There was a little rain, but for the most part, the weather was perfect for flying. We have some really great photos which will " ... tell the rest of the story."

Sam Snyder from austin, with his BVM Mig 15. We've see this plane before at Mississippi and Sam tells me he and Tom Dodgem competed for the second time at Top Gun this year.

Once, twice, three times. Welcome back. Hicks Milner and his son, Lanier. His (their) BVM Maverick Pro powered with a .96 BVM engine.

George Garzon, with 35 years in radio control aircraft but a relative newcomer to the scene... and what a way to arrive.

George and Scotty, with George's sister planes, CAI's Razor and Raptor (both finished in the Navy/Jolly Roger scheme) built by Jack Holland, powered by an AMT AT180 and AT280 (respectively).

Robert Lynch had only three flights on this BVM F-86 Sabre Jet before he came to Mississippi. He added 28 flights during the event; each flight superbly executed.

Some of the crew (from left to right): Robert Clanton, Janice Franklin, Margaret Lankford, Justin Knight, Ruby Blaylock and Gary Burrus. Contrary to what they may tell you, these are Very Important People.

Vernon and Elizabeth... would you mind sharing the joke with the rest of us?

Vernon and Bill Kinney (That's right, no "Mc" but with an "e"). A magnificent Air Champs F-15, complete with Killer Cockpit and Ram 1000, (built by Jack Holland).

William Lott with his cool 'Roo!

Don Massey, our JPO Vice President, with his traditional Blue Angel F-18.

Dr. John Delk, from Sarasota, FL with another CAI model, this time a red, white and blue Razor (powered with AMT AT180).

David Bertrand from Marrero, LA with his gorgeous white, yellow and orange CIA Raptor powered by AMT AT280, (built by Jack Holland).

Rick Yverton from Jackson. Relatively new red and white BVM Bandit, powered by an AMT AT180. Looks good in the air.

Dennis and Paul Lott with Paul's BVM F-16 powered with a RAM 750 (18 lbs. of thrust). Awesome.

Thirty years of Phabulous Phantoms.
This BVM model has only "30 flights (or so)..."
according to pilot Billy Harrod. Built by Tim Redelman,
Billy says the plane performs flawlessly,
is extremely powerful with unlimited climb
and handles exceptionally well on the ground.
Billy also says, "It flies like a maverick in the air."
I believed everything he said, except for that last sentence.
